Project Professor Shinji Fukuda and Project Assistant Professor Jiayue Yang of the IAB, Keio University, in collaboration with Associate Professor Takeshi Ichinohe of the Division of Viral Infection, Department of Infection Control, International Research Center for Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Medical Science, The University of Tokyo, and Metagen, Inc., have demonstrated that the intake of partially hydrolyzed guar gum (PHGG) significantly suppresses mortality in hamsters infected with SARS-CoV-2 in an animal infection model.
The findings suggest that metabolites derived from the gut microbiota may play a role in mediating this protective effect.
