【Institute for Advanced Biosciences】Establishment of Nucleic Acid Delivery Technology to Brown Algae – Development of Non-Genetically Modified and Convenient Brown Algae Modification Method
2024.03.25
The research team led by Keiji Numata, Team Leader of the Biomacromolecular Research Team at the RIKEN Center for Sustainable Resource Science (Professor at the Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, and Special Appointment Professor at the Institute for Advanced Biosciences, Keio University), along with Naoto Yoshinaga, a Research Fellow in Basic Science (Special Appointment Assistant Professor at the Institute for Advanced Biosciences, Keio University), established a method for efficiently introducing nucleic acids (siRNA) into brown algae by targeting polysaccharides in the mucosal layer/cell wall and boronic acid transporters on the cell membrane using phenylboronic acid (PBA) ligands loaded onto nanoparticles.
