Metagen, Inc., in collaboration with multiple institutions including Nihonkai General Hospital (Sakata, Yamagata), has confirmed that continuous intake of the prebiotic kestose by pregnant women helps suppress the decline in gut microbiome diversity typically observed in late pregnancy. The study also found increases in beneficial bacteria and butyrate, a key short-chain fatty acid.
These findings were presented on November 19, 2025, at the 5th Annual Meeting of the Gut Design Society.
